Find Macomb County Inmates

The Macomb County Jail is run by the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, with the inmate roster published online through JailTracker. To search for Macomb County inmates, the public uses the Sheriff's Locate an Inmate page and the public JailTracker app. The roster shows booking date, charges, bond, court date, and current facility. Visitation, mail, money deposits, and inmate phone calls each follow their own official rules. The Sheriff also warns the public about phone scams that claim to be from the jail. A Macomb County inmate search through the official roster avoids those scams and avoids third-party aggregator sites.

Posting Bond for a Macomb County Inmate

The Sheriff's Pay Bonds page tells the public to gather inmate name, inmate number, case numbers, and bond/fine amount before paying. During court hours, bonds are posted at the court of jurisdiction, except Circuit Court and Friend of the Court cases. After hours, the Sheriff's Office handles bond posting. In person, the jail accepts cash, cashier's check made out to "Macomb County Prisoner Information," major credit cards (with fee), and approved surety bonds.

Macomb County Jail Programs and Medical Care

The jail's inmate services page lists trustee work opportunities in housekeeping, maintenance, kitchen, library, and laundry. Macomb Community Corrections runs alternatives to incarceration. Wellpath provides medical, dental, and psychological care. L'Anse Creuse provides correctional education. Clinton Counseling provides substance-abuse treatment. Jail Ministry runs religious programming. Property release runs Sunday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If an inmate transfers to prison, property is held for 14 days before disposal.

VINELink Custody Notifications

Victims and concerned family can register for custody notifications through VINELink. The service sends alerts when an inmate's custody status changes — transfer, release, escape, or court date. Registration takes a phone, email, or text setup. Macomb's JailTracker app exposes VINE-related identifier fields, suggesting integration where supported. VINELink is not a replacement for the Sheriff's roster; treat it as an early-warning service that complements the roster lookups.

Phone Scam Warning

The Sheriff's locate-inmate page warns the public that no real Sheriff's Office call demands fees, gift cards, bitcoin, or other payments by phone. The most common scam claims that a relative is in jail and that bond must be paid by gift card or wire to release them. The Macomb County Sheriff's Office does not collect bond by phone. If a caller demands payment by gift card or other irregular method, hang up and call 586-469-5151 to confirm before sending anything. The same warning applies to texts and emails claiming to be from the Sheriff or the courts.

Classification and Public Roster Limits

The Macomb County Jail classifies inmates for safety, housing, medical needs, mental-health needs, security level, separation issues, and legal status. Classification helps the staff house people appropriately and identify needed services. The public JailTracker roster does not display medical flags, suicide-prevention status, protective custody, or detailed housing pod information. Family members concerned about an inmate's safety or medical needs should contact jail staff directly rather than try to infer status from the roster. The Sheriff's Office and Wellpath jointly handle medical questions during incarceration.

Attorney and Professional Access

Attorneys, law enforcement, government agencies, probation and parole officers, and approved clergy are professional visitors. They report to the Prisoner Information Office and have three business windows seven days a week: 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Attorney visits do not count against the inmate's weekly visit cap. Attorney-client communications inside the jail follow privilege rules and are not subject to the recording that applies to nonprofessional video visits.

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony M. Wickersham

The official Sheriff's Office page names Anthony M. Wickersham as Macomb County Sheriff. The page features direct links for "Locate an inmate," "Inmate services," "Visit an inmate," "Pay bonds," "Purchase police report online," and a transparency dashboard. The Sheriff's general line is 586-469-5151. The Sheriff's Office distinguishes itself from the courthouse: the jail and bond posting are on Elizabeth Road, not at 40 N. Main. The Sheriff's Office runs jail operations, road patrol, marine and special services, and corrections programs.

The Sheriff's transparency dashboard, accessible from the Sheriff's homepage, gives the public access to operating metrics and incident reports beyond the basic locator. The county Prosecutor and the courts handle charging and case decisions; the Sheriff handles custody and release timing.

The Macomb County Jail Booking Process

After an arrest in Macomb County, the arresting police agency may handle the suspect first and then transfer custody to the Macomb County Jail for county-level holding. Jail intake follows a standard sequence designed to confirm identity, check for outstanding warrants, secure property, document the person for safety reasons, and assign housing. The intake sequence usually takes longer for first-time bookings and shorter for people the jail can re-process from a recent file.

  1. Identity confirmation and warrant check.
  2. Property inventory (wallet, phone, keys, jewelry).
  3. Booking photograph and fingerprints.
  4. Medical and mental-health screening by Wellpath staff.
  5. Classification for housing and program eligibility.
  6. Entry into the jail management system, after which the booking may appear in JailTracker.

The roster is not a real-time promise. A newly arrested person may not appear until the booking and data-publication steps finish. Friends and family who do not see a recent booking in the public roster should call 586-307-9612 instead of assuming the search failed.

Property Release and Transfer Rules

The inmate services page lists property release times as Sunday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In-custody inmates may release valuable property only while incarcerated. Valuables include keys, pagers, cell phones, wallets, jewelry, and similar items. Clothing is treated separately. If an inmate transfers to state prison, property is boxed and held for 14 days; an authorized person must pick it up within that window or the items are disposed of. Families frequently ask about phones, keys, wallets, and clothing, so the property rules matter in practice.

The Sheriff's Office also publishes a Notice of Rejected Mail process for mail blocked at intake. If mail is rejected, the inmate or sender receives a notice that explains the reason. Reasons include contraband, prohibited images, stamps, food, checks, bills, receipts, envelopes, labels, oversized cards, Polaroids, magnets, stickers, ribbon, illegal items, or material threatening safety or good order.
